Professor S. Mohammed Mazherul Haq is a distinguished academic, author, and retired educator with an illustrious career spanning over four decades. Born in Madhugiri, he completed his Bachelor of Arts from Bangalore University and pursued higher education with a Master’s degree in Geography (1969–1971) and a second Master’s in Middle Eastern Studies (1973–1975), now known as West Asian Studies.
Professor Haq began his career as an O-Level Lecturer at Rishi Valley Public School in Rishi Valley, Andhra Pradesh, from 1971 to 1973. He then worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Mysore, where he further honed his academic expertise. Over the years, he rose to head the Department of Geography and eventually retired as the Principal of Sharda Vilas Pre-University College, Mysore, in 2006, after 40 years of dedicated service.


A prolific author, Professor Haq has made significant contributions to the field of Geography with his publications, including Physical Geography (1983), Indian Geography (1996), and a revised edition of Physical Geography (2023). His scholarly work has been widely recognized and appreciated.
In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Haq has held numerous leadership roles. He served as the Warden of the New Muslim Hostel, Mysore, from 1982 to 2000, and as a Lieutenant Commander in the NCC Three Karnataka Naval Unit from 1982 to 2000. For his meritorious service in the NCC, he was honored with the Chief Minister’s Commendation Card in 1987.
Professor Haq’s administrative contributions include serving as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Sharda Vilas Pre-University College from 2009 to 2011 and as the Principal of MCM First Grade College from 2012 to 2016. He also held the position of Treasurer of the Mysore University Private College Teachers Association and served as a Former Chartered Director of the Rotary Club Mysore South East.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Professor Haq has been deeply involved in community service. He is the Chairman of TASK Educational Charitable Welfare Trust and has served as a counselor at the Mysore Police Helpline, reflecting his commitment to societal well-being.
Since retiring, Professor Haq has embraced a new passion: online blogging. On his Substack platform, Nazariyah he regularly shares his thoughts and opinions on a wide range of topics, including geography, religion, cultures, and their interactions. He also writes about his travel adventures around the world, offering readers a glimpse into his rich experiences and insights.

Shanaz Begum, born in Mysore, was a highly accomplished psychologist, educator, and social contributor who dedicated her life to the betterment of individuals and communities. She completed her Bachelor of Arts from Maharani’s College, University of Mysore, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Psychology from the same university. With over 30 years of practice, Shanaz specialized in child developmental psychology and adolescent psychology, making significant contributions to the field.
She began her career as a Lecturer in Psychology at Maharani’s College before prioritizing her family and children’s well-being. Despite stepping away from formal teaching, Shanaz remained deeply involved in psychology and social work. She served as a Consulting Psychologist for the Helpline at the Police Commissioner’s Office in Mysore, offering crucial support to those in need. Her expertise and compassion made her a respected figure in the community.
Shanaz was the Founding Vice Chairman of TASK Educational Charitable Welfare Trust, where she played a pivotal role in shaping its vision and initiatives. Through her extensive educational network, she mobilized substantial funding for the Trust and introduced numerous flagship programs and scholarships. Her efforts significantly advanced the cause of education and mental health, particularly for women and children.
In her later years, Shanaz focused on religious and charitable work, further solidifying her legacy as a compassionate leader. Her sudden loss in 2021 to COVID-19 was a profound blow to the Trust and the community, leaving a void in leadership and support.
To honor her memory, the Trust established the Shanaz Begum Memorial Scholarship for female psychology students at the University of Mysore. Additionally, programs like the Inclusive Minds Programme continue her advocacy for female education and mental health well-being, particularly in child developmental psychology. Shanaz Begum’s life and work remain a testament to her unwavering commitment to education, mental health, and social welfare, and her legacy continues to inspire future generations.
